Randy Olson: Plastic Apocalyse - Cameraworks Gallery - 2801 N Gantenbein Ave. Portland, OR 97227

Plastic Apocalypse

Opening Reception, June 30, 3:30pm-7:00pm
Artist Talk, June 30, 4:30pm-5:15pm

National Geographic photographer Randy Olson notes, “There are millions of slum workers around the world involved in an informal plastic waste industry that is “always hiring”. This third-world “gold rush” to process plastic waste is an economy with no end in sight. The planet produced 448 million tons of plastic in 2015 alone—just one year! As much as 6.3 billion tons in total now sits in landfills, in the ocean, or scattered across the landscape of multiple continents. More than 40% of plastics are used just once, and then tossed. Only nine percent of our plastic waste is recycled into other products.”

Bring your June issue of National Geographic to the opening reception; Randy is available for a “magazine signing”.

NOTE: Randy Olson’s June 30th exhibit will be in Camerawork Gallery’s new permanent home—the Lorenzen Conference Center, Legacy Emanuel Medical Center campus, Portland, OR. Enter outdoor plaza at 310 N. Graham Street then Lorenzen Conference Center. Free off street parking is available.

Andy Hann: Welcome to Hollywood - Camerawork Gallery - 2801 N Gantenbein Ave. Portland, OR 97227

Welcome to Hollywood

California native Andy Hann notes, “Equal parts circus and train wreck, Hollywood Boulevard has to be one of, if not, the strangest boulevards in America. This exhibition is from an ongoing series that wades through the sites and stories of the quarter mile stretch known as the boulevard of broken dreams. I have no desire to make fun of any individual, but I love to poke fun at society, pop culture.”

Hann’s exhibit will be in Camerawork Gallery’s new permanent home—the Lorenzen Conference Center, Legacy Emanuel Medical Center campus, Portland, OR. Enter outdoor plaza at 301 N. Graham Street then Lorenzen Conference Center. Free off street parking is available on campus.
